Ronen I. Kat is a managing the Cloud Storage group at the IBM Research Lab in Haifa, which is focused on data storage in the cloud and data related aspects of workloads in the cloud. He is leading development of storage advanced features for virtualization and cloud environments; including development of storage features for OpenStack and data reduction. Recently he was involved in introduction and development of advanced storage features for OpenStack block storage, and enabling IBM Storage systems for OpenStack.
He was previously involved in developing power management functions for storage systems, and a member of the Storage Networking Industry Association (SNIA) and the Green Grid technical working groups for green storage. His research interests include compression, storage in the cloud, energy usage, storage systems, distributed algorithms and communication networks with emphasis on autonomic systems and self-stabilization. Before joining IBM Ronen worked in datacenter IT providing services for mainframe performance, communications, databases and applications, and provided engineering support for satellite and Internet networks. Ronen holds a Ph.D. in computer science from the Ben-Gurion University of the Negev.
