The Cloud of Data
Founder
Beverley, East Riding of Yorkshire

Paul offers analysis and consultancy at the interface between the enterprise and the web.

As wider shifts such as Big Data, Cloud Computing and Linked Data become increasingly well understood, it is clear that new opportunities are created whereby the enterprise can more effectively engage with employees, customers and partners. The edge of the enterprise is becoming increasingly permeable, with employees and customers appropriating control of the brand and interacting via their own channels. Recognition is growing that data traditionally locked down inside an organisation is of far greater value within a data ecosystem made possible by convergence between mature Semantic Web specifications, the participative revolution of Web 2.0 and an evolution of Cloud Computing beyond the simple remote hosting of compute resources.

Paul’s insights in this fast-moving market ensure that clients have access to the intelligence and analysis they need in order to adapt to new opportunities in a timely and cost-effective fashion.

Until 2009, Paul was Technology Evangelist at UK technology company Talis, and a member of the Senior Management Team. Prior to joining Talis in 2005 he held the post of Director at the Common Information Environment, a consortium of UK public sector organisations including the BBC, the British Library, the Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC) and the National Health Service (NHS).

Paul has served in a variety of advisory and monitoring capacities, including the Executive Committees of the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI) and Consortium for the Computer Interchange of Museum Information (CIMI). Paul sits on Programme Committees for major industry events, and worked closely with VentureBeat on the programme for their inaugural, 2012 and 2013 Cloud Computing conferences as well as their inaugural Big Data conference in 2013.

Paul was Curator of the Infrastructure/ Cloud Computing channel on GigaOM’s analyst site, GigaOM Pro throughout 2011, and remains an active Analyst on the site. He records regular podcasts with thought leaders across Cloud Computing and the Semantic Technology space, and routinely presents and chairs panels at industry events and online.

Paul holds a Doctorate in Archaeology from the University of York.
