Carl Baldwin

DigitalOcean
Senior Engineer II
Fort Collins, Colorado
Carl started his career developing electronic design automation software with HP’s microprocessor design projects: PA-RISC and Itanium. Years later, he spent a short time on a few of HP's network attached storage products. The whole time, he felt drawn to computer networking. He consistently stepped outside his purview to weigh in on office networking issues as well as to provide expertise to the network design in the products.

In late 2012, he was introduced to the OpenStack Neutron (then Quantum) project while at HP. He was a leader in that project for years which is where he began his speaking career. He gave a number of talks at summits and local meetups detailing ongoing efforts in the community.

In May of 2018, he got an opportunity to work with DigitalOcean's VPC team and has been enjoying it since. He is fascinated by network virtualization for the cloud and thrilled with the challenges of working at their scale.

Carl lives in Fort Collins, Colorado with his wife, two daughters, a son, and a dog. He loves to run, hike, swim, mountain bike, and plays disc golf and volleyball when he gets the opportunity. Otherwise, his hobbies look a lot like his work: writing software and tinkering with networking.
